Mutual revenge and a historical curse are at the forefront of the duel between Barcelona and Madrid International sport
Al Malaeb Newspaper – The El Clásico era is renewed this season, but this time in Saudi Arabia, where an upcoming match between Barcelona and Real Madrid will take place in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.
Barça secured their place in the final by beating Athletic Bilbao with two unanswered goals, before their rival overtook them by beating Real Mallorca with three unanswered goals.
All eyes will be on the Radiant Jewel Stadium tomorrow, Sunday, to find out the identity of this year's Spanish super champions after the end of the expected El Clásico.
Mutual revenge
The second El Clásico match this season is shrouded in a desire for revenge from both teams, as Real Madrid seek revenge for the resounding 4-0 defeat at home to the Catalan team last October in the Spanish league.
This loss ended Real Madrid's streak of consecutive wins in El Clásico, which lasted four games between April 2023 and April 2024.
But the desire for revenge is also in the minds of the Barcelona players, especially since the last final between them in the Spanish Super Cup ended in favor of the Merengue.
Barcelona also lost (1-4) in the final of the last edition, namely in January 2024, allowing the Merengues to win the thirteenth title in their history.
Barcelona are also looking to deprive their rival of the record throne in the Super Cup, in light of the Blaugrana occupying the country with 14 titles.
But Real Madrid's victory in the next match means the two teams finish level and share first place with the most wins in the Super Cup.
The curse of the quartet
Barcelona has the curse of its historic crisis in El Clasico, with its first confrontation with Real Madrid after the defeat (4-0), namely that it never wins.
The curse started in 1958, when Barça defeated Real Madrid 4-0 in La Liga, but in the next clash between them, the Royal team won 1-0 in the second round.
In 1986, the curse was renewed after Barcelona's victory by the same score over its rival in the King's Cup, with the next match resulting in a draw (1–1) in La Liga.
Barcelona waited until 2015 to win again against Real Madrid (4-0) in La Liga, but in the next confrontation they fell prey to its rival at Camp Nou (1-2).
Two years ago, to be precise in March 2022, Barcelona stunned its home rival with a clean 4-0 victory, followed by Real Madrid's victory in the next confrontation (2-1) at Camp Nou.
After the quad in the first round of La Liga, the curse could be renewed in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, or Barcelona could manage to break it for the first time in its history by achieving victory in the confrontation after the quadruple victory.
