For the first time, Salah returns to play with the Egyptian national team under the leadership of Hossam Hassan.

Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, returned to the Egyptian national football team on Sunday in preparation for the matches against Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau in the third and fourth rounds of Group A in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, announced a squad of 25 players for a training camp starting on May 28 in preparation for the matches against Burkina Faso in Cairo on June 6 and Guinea-Bissau at their venue on June 10.

Salah was absent from the “Pharaohs” squad in the first March camp

Salah was absent from the “Pharaohs” squad in the March camp, the first under Hassan, who took over the national team coaching duties from Portuguese coach Rui Vitória, who was dismissed after Egypt was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire earlier this year.

Salah excused himself from the first camp due to not fully recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the match between Egypt and Ghana in the African Cup of Nations, after which he left the national team to undergo treatment in Liverpool.

The top scorer did not participate in the first two matches under Hassan, where the team achieved a 1-0 victory over New Zealand and then lost 2-4 to Croatia.

The Egyptian national team currently leads Group A

The Egyptian national team currently tops Group A with six points from victories over Djibouti and Sierra Leone, leading by two points over Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau, and five over Sierra Leone and Ethiopia, while Djibouti is at the bottom with no points.
