Arsenal falls into the Brighton trap International sport
Al Malaeb Newspaper – Arsenal were unable to tighten the noose around leader Liverpool due to a 1-1 draw with host Brighton on Saturday evening in the twentieth round of the English Premier League.
Ethan Nwaneri scored Arsenal's goal in the 16th minute, while Brighton equalized from a penalty through Joao Pedro in the 61st minute.
Arsenal increased their score to 40 points in second place, 5 points behind Liverpool, who play Manchester United tomorrow, Sunday.
While Brighton's score rose to 28 points, in tenth place in the Premier League.
The first dangerous chance of the match came in the sixth minute, when Arsenal's Trossard fired a shot from the edge of the penalty area and Brighton defender Igor was in front of it.
Nwaniri quickly rushed the ball towards Brighton Stadium after receiving the deflected ball from an opposite corner, but full-back Estupinan grabbed the ball from him at the right moment in the 12th minute.
Arsenal were able to open the scoring in the 16th minute when Nwaniri received a pass from Mikel Merino, ran the ball from the right side and burst into the penalty area, before successfully firing a sneaking ball into the goal.
Brighton responded in the 22nd minute, when Adingra collected a cross, which Gruda followed with his head towards O'Reilly, but goalkeeper David Raya reached the ball in front of him.
After their goal, Arsenal relied on quick blitz attacks, but full-back Estupinan twice blocked Nwaniri's ball, the last of which came in the 32nd minute.
Brighton striker Joao Pedro took the ball from Arsenal midfielder Jorginho and passed it to O'Reilly, who in turn passed it to Adingra, but his effort went wide of the target in the 34th minute.
Goalkeeper Verbruggen saved Brighton's goal from a goal opportunity in the 37th minute as he prevented Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus from scoring.
Arsenal almost scored the second goal in the 40th minute, through a corner that reached Jesus, who headed the ball away from the goal after competition from his colleague Merino.
Between the two halves of the match, Gabriel Martinelli came into Arsenal's line-up, replacing Nwaneri, and Estupinan fired a long-range shot that rebounded off the foot of a defender before goalkeeper Raya checked it in the 49th minute.
The referee awarded Brighton a penalty after Joao Pedro was hit in the head by William Saliba, and Pedro successfully executed the kick to equalize in the 61st minute.
Martin Odegaard came into the Arsenal line-up in place of Jorginho, but the tempo of the match slowed until the 77th minute, when substitute Yankuba ran down the right wing past Ricardo Calafiore, before sending a ball, but substitute Mitoma failed to reach the ball, centimeters from the goal line.
Arsenal came close to regaining the lead in the 88th minute, when Declan Rice executed a free-kick and Thomas Partey rose, heading over the crossbar to end the match in a 1–1 draw.
