Liverpool are working wonders this season.
Arne Slot has taken to life at Anfield like a duck to water, and, as things stand, Liverpool are favourites to win the Premier League.
However, as we’ve seen so many times in the Premier League, anything can happen in a title race.
Gary Neville thinks Arsenal can still win the league, and Liverpool need to be wary of those threats.
The January window is open, and Liverpool could be busy this month as they look to push to win the title.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been linked to Liverpool recently, and speaking on Stick To Football, Jamie Carragher has claimed that Liverpool need a new defender.
Jamie Carragher says Liverpool need a new defender
Carragher spoke about what Liverpool need to do this month.
The pundit says that Liverpool need a defender who can play at both centre-back and left-back, claiming he’d be almost certain that Liverpool would win the league if they made such a signing.
Fabrizio Romano said Liverpool were working on a centre-back in the summer, but nothing happened.
“I think if Liverpool haven’t got a player that every other club has, it’s a left-sided defender who can play centre-back or left-back,” Carragher said.
“So Arsenal have got Calafiori, even United have got Martinez, Chelsea have got Colwill, City have got Nathan Ake and Gvardiol all. Even Tottenham have got Van de Ven, who could do a little bit of left-back. Liverpool need, I’ve said this for a long time, they need a left-sided defender who can sort of do a little bit of both stature, presence and just a bit more power.
“That’s my only, I think if Liverpool sign that player in January.
“Nothing’s been linked, but it’s crying out for. I think if Liverpool did that, I’d be almost certain that they’d win the league.”
Which defenders could Liverpool sign?
Carragher says that Liverpool need a centre-back who can double up as a left-back, but, by the sound of things, the Reds may go for a centre-back and a left-back in two separate deals.
Indeed, Liverpool have been linked with a number of players in both positions.
Liverpool like Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, while Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is also on Liverpool’s radar.
As for centre-backs, Liverpool have looked at Murillo from Nottingham Forest in recent times, who is a left-footed option, while Loic Bade has been linked to Liverpool recently too.
Liverpool aren’t necessarily lacking depth in those positions.

Ibrahima Konate | Kostas Tsimikas |
Joe Gomez | |
Jarell Quansah |
However, they are lacking quality somewhat. Andy Robertson has been criticised heavily this season after some poor performances, while Jarell Quansah hasn’t been great when he has played either.
Whether or not Liverpool go for this type of signing in January remains to be seen, but bolstering your defence can never hurt your chances of winning the Premier League.
