Brentford manager Thomas Frank labelled Liverpool as “a level above” Arsenal and Manchester City after he watched his side lose 2-0 to the Premier League leaders.

A late double from substitute Darwin Nunez extended the Reds’ cushion at the top of the league table to six points, and they also have a game in hand over Arsenal, who occupy second place.

The Gunners blew the chance to stay in touching distance with Arne Slot’s side later on Saturday, as they let a 2-0 lead slip at home to Aston Villa, with Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins finding the net to snatch a point, and take a crucial two away from Mikel Arteta’s side.

Manchester City, meanwhile, looked to have turned a corner after they suffered a run of just one win in 13 games across all competitions.

However, they were dealt a dose of reality at the Gtech when they visited Frank’s Brentford on Tuesday.

The west London side went toe-to-toe with the champions and emerged with a 2-2 draw for their efforts, with Christian Norgaard’s late equaliser snatching a point for the hosts.

After the Bees’ defeat to Liverpool, however, Frank commented that Arsenal and City were not on the same level as the league leaders.

“We just played City, Arsenal and now Liverpool in a short amount of time,” the Brentford boss said.

“For me, they’re a level above the two teams. They’re complete. It’s the best team in the Premier League and the world. They’re huge favourites to win it.”

Frank, who has been in charge of Brentford since 2018, thought that his side put up a good performance against Slot’s pace-setters.

“I thought we did well,” Frank continued. “I thought we competed well throughout the game. I thought we did extremely well; gave very few big chances away.

“It’s a perfect example of where Liverpool are. 0-0, you can’t say that would have been unfair, but if Liverpool won 1-0, you can’t argue that they [didn’t deserve it]; they had more of the ball and more opportunities than us.

“We had a fair few, but the way the final one dropped for them, we blocked the shot, and it drops inch-perfect so Trent [Alexander-Arnold] can pull it back for Nunez, and then he scores.

“If he needs to take a touch, maybe we adjust, and then we are there to block. It’s a perfect example of where Liverpool are right now. It’s dropping for them.

“They are exceptionally good. They didn’t win because of a ball that dropped for them. But also, it’s going their way, which is well deserved.

“They work very hard. A good example was [Virgil] van Dijk chasing Bryan Mbeumo back 50, 60 yards. They defended well, especially [Ibrahima] Konate and Van Dijk.”
