Saint-Germain fans greet an Israeli team with stink bombs International sport
Al Malaeb Newspaper – Paris Police Chief Laurent Nunez deployed a thousand law enforcement forces during the European Basketball League match between Paris Saint-Germain and Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv amid fears of protests related to the war in the Gaza Strip, but they were dealing with a different kind of problem.
During the first quarter of the game at Adidas Arena, Nunez and about 4,500 spectators covered their noses as an odor resembling what they described as rotten cheese or vomit spread through the stadium.
Police said the smell came from stink bombs that some spectators had set off as they left the stadium on a peaceful evening.
Paris Saint-Germain won the match 96-83.
A number of sporting events involving Israeli teams in France witnessed protests related to the war in Gaza.
In December, a basketball match between the Nanterre 92 team and the Israeli team Hapoel Holon was stopped for minutes after a group of people waving Palestinian flags stormed the court.
